Re: New warning template + other template idea

  • Hey, I think the new template looks great, however I also think that we should have some sort of accompanying warning template before the block, where it points them to look at pages such as the Manual of Style before they continue to edit. And in terms of the part infobox, I've been meaning to start a forum about this but have kept getting sidetracked. Samdo994 suggested a parts infobox to me a few days ago, and I created a test one here (with example here). So I'll start that forum now, but feel free to make any improvements in the code or anything that you want to.
Also I'll close up the forum and write it up on the FA page somewhere, however I'm not entirely sure about your last comment on there- I thought FA's would just be added to some sort of queue to be displayed on the main page in the order they were made FA's, and I would be all right with the board of reviewers, but some users may get frustrated by not being able to participate in being able to vote on whether an article should be an FA. Maybe we should adopt a scheme where it must have 5 votes total, with 2 of the votes coming from this board of reviewers? Also would be the voting time, etc follow the same rules as the GA rules we established (although there haven't been any GA votes). And I wouldn't object to seeing Ajraddatz being nominated for rollback.
On an unrelated note, what do you think of this latest pattern of creating talkheaders for hundreds of pages? Honestly all I find it does is make the recentchanges very hard to read and kind of a waste of time when articles can be being improved instead, but I guess we can't really tell people to stop since they are valid edits I guess. Sorry for the long post :) NightblazeSaber 23:30, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
    • New warning template looks good- thanks for making that, and the horizonal infobox sounds interesting, but what would it be like exactly? Would it be like the set header template, or just switching the columns with the rows? NightblazeSaber 01:25, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Various stuff

  • For the FA review, both options sound valid, but at any rate I think we need to decide who should be on this reviewing board. Should we start up a forum for "elections"? Also, I know this isn't very important, but like other wikis with this similar system I think we should probably also come up with a name for this group and a logo to sign their support with (eg Wookieepedia's Inquisitorius and the Harry Potter Wiki's Department of Mysteries). But we should probably start an elections page fairly quickly and get the elections over with so we can start up the FA scheme again. Also how big do you think the board should be? I was thinking somewhere between 5-10, (6?) but I think we should come up with a definite number before we start voting.

I can't think of any way to come up with a simple filter, guess we'll just have to put up with it. Also the parts template looks great! It's nominated at the part infobox forum. And I like the warning template too NightblazeSaber 06:14, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

  • I'd have to say that leaving it open to every probably wouldn't be the best idea (like you said, based on that past experience). I would be ok with the users with priveleges should have automatic nominations, but I think they should all be asked if they want to be nominated first, as some of these users may not want to do this on top of everything else- after all they will be expected to review most of the FA nominations. Also after these nominations, I still think others should be allowed to be nominated- we may pick up a few users who may not have privileges but be good at reviewing. I don't know, that's just my opinion, but I'll start asking around to those with priveleges if they want to be on this board if it's ok with you. Also, with the two rollback nominations, it does say that the votes have to be for at least a week on the page, so I guess while it's obvious they're both going to get it we should probably uphold the policy (actually I'm just waiting for a couple of minutes for the UTC time to go to the next day so I can give Nerfblasterpro rollback) NightblazeSaber 23:58, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
    • I've asked everyone with rollback or higher if they would be interesting in being on this board, just wanted to fill you in with what I've heard back so far.
      • Coupon11 (Yes)
      • Captain Rex (Yes)
      • Kingcjc (Haven't heard back from yet)
      • You- I'm assuming that you'd want to be on the board since you've done all the work with FA criteria?
      • MarioGalaxy2433g5 (Haven't heard back from yet)
      • Nerfblasterpro (Yes)
      • Me (Yes)

I've said to them that this may not be the way it will be chosen, but I just thought we should get some idea of users who were interested just in case this was the way it will be done and we could speed things up a bit. So, which way do you think this should go? I'm happy to go with whatever you think on this one NightblazeSaber 00:58, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

  • Hi, new the rules all look really well thought out and I agree with everything you've said with needing 3 support votes and a total of 5 on the board for now. But while I do understand that we need to get a board up and running very quickly (at the latest I think week before the end of the month so we can have a new FA) I don't think that me choosing would be a great option- firstly because I'm just another admin after all, but also because some consider me to make biased decisions and think it's some sort of favoritism thing. So the big problem is that I can't see any way to do this that can be deemed both quick and fully democratic. I'll think about it for a day or half a day or so, and if I can't come up with any decent alternative, I'll let you know. Also "Alpha Team" does sound good, but as you said, doesn't really seem appropriate for an FA board, although it's much better than "FA board". I'll keep thinking about that too and get back to you later :) NightblazeSaber 11:49, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
  • Just having a look around at other FA board pages, both the Harry Potter Wiki and Wookieepedia had extensive voting sections found here and here. Honestly I can't see how to do this without some sort of vote for the board to be deemed fairly elected. NightblazeSaber 02:41, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
    • I don't think personally that we need to vote as to whether a board is needed, it seems pretty obvious that we do need to make sure that the criteria can't be overriden by votes from users who just like the page, and a board seems like the best way to make sure that this won't happen. But I do think we need to vote on or clarify what the board will be doing, and would it be possible to start the nominations at the same time? While we won't know what exactly what the board will be doing, everyone will have a general idea of what it's about- make sure FA noms meet certain standards, vote accordingly and point out any improvements that need to be made. I guess I'm just trying to speed things up a bit really :) Also, should the users be chosen strictly through nominations or can they put their own name forward? (I noticed that on the HP Wiki, both could be done). The idea of having just a nomination period seemed good to me too, so the voting for users begins all at the same time. I agree with limiting the number of votes per voter as well and two sounds like a good number for it. Restricting the users to those who have over 50/100 edits sounds good too, as long as this means 50/100 before voting has opened- probably 100 would be better in my opinion, but I'd be happy with 50. Running out of admin votes could be a problem. Maybe we should make it that users cannot have a certain number of opposing admin votes (or are we going to have an "oppose" section)? And, I agree that we may have to review FA status sometime in the future, but if we do that now, I think we'd only end up with 1 or 2 FAs, and a while ago it was voted down to remove all FA status from all articles and start again with a criteria. Maybe it would be better to implement this later when we have a few FA's that meet all the criteria, and just use the template for a bit longer without reviewing FA status? I wouldn't mind stripping having FA status stripped from those who don't meet the criteria right now, but I think others would. But feel free to start up any forums/nominations pages that you think we should start up, and let me know if I can do anything NightblazeSaber 08:45, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
      • Hi, 200 does sound a bit high, but if a user wants to be on the board, they should have done a fair few mainspace edits around here so I think it would be all right. And, I think I'd have to agree with dropping the admin rule- having 3 places reserved especially for 4 admins does seem like a bit much, but if 3 or 4 admins are voted in, then that's fine. And I would have to agree more with the HP wikis decision of open nomination (well, open for users who pass the candidate criteria). Apart from that, unless you have any other things you think we need to discuss, or disagree with anything, I think the page can go live whenever you want it to, so feel free to start it soon :) Also, how long do you think the nomination time should run? HP wiki had 5 days for just nominations, but I was thinking maybe 3? (or 4?) NightblazeSaber 01:29, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
        • Good to see the page up and running- just wondering if you wanted to be nominated for a position :) NightblazeSaber 07:01, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
          • Sure- if it's ok with you that'd be great :) Thanks, NightblazeSaber 07:52, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
            • Hi, thanks for the nomination :) I'm just checking- is this a nomination period only? I know it's on the forum page as having a 5 day period with 2 weeks voting, but Ajraddatz put a vote in, so I'm just making sure that this is the nomination time. Thanks, NightblazeSaber 23:11, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
              • I've put a template on the voting page to ask users not to vote yet- feel free to fix up the wording or anything, or if I've got it wrong and voting can start, please remove it or let me know :) NightblazeSaber 23:22, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

I didn't realise I wasn't logged in when I wrote that Thanks note. As I said, this is my first time with a wikia. Sorry about that! --Mr.minifigure 21:07, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

Re:Bot

It is really neat, even though the Auto Wiki Browser requires human input along the way. Would you mind Special:Contacting wikia and getting them to flag Ajrbot as a bot on Brickipedia, when you have time? Anyways, it is really easy to use and you can find the page on it here. Have a good day! ajr 23:06, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

B'crat Nomination

I nominated you because I think that this wiki might benefit from another b'crat, but if you don't want to be then that is fine. I know how you feel, I would refuse Bureaucrat on any wiki, except the Age of Empires Wiki which needs an active b'crat. Also, if you don't approve of a nomination, then you need to delete it, and hence why I don't like the nomination system. I prefer the request system, where a user requests permissions themselves. Anyways, have a good day, and I will get you the article in a while. ajr 20:35, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

An article that I made can be found here. I might point out that I made two of the template on the page as well :) ajr 23:23, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
Actually, that is a very bad example. This one is better. ajr 23:34, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Parts pages

I had a new suggestion on Nighhawk Leaders talk page. Quote:
"The Element ID is for each part different, even if it is the same part only in another color. So

  • The Design ID is the same for a part in all colors and
  • The Element ID is for a part in several colors different.

My new suggestion is to create several Redirect pages with the page "Part <Element ID>" and it contains REDIRECTPart<Design ID>, so the searching person can type in the Element ID or the Design ID and he will find the same page. That page would have the Design ID as the number of the page (Sorry for changing my mind I just found out. We still can vote on it.)."
What do you think about that idea? Its my best suggestion so far. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits10:25, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Great contributor

  • Hi, I must say I find this user's contributions here to be a bit unconstructive, especially since their mainspace editcount is a grand total of 0. But, I'm not sure what we can do about this- the edits made haven't exactly been vandalism or anything. Or are you talking about possible sockpuppetry? NightblazeSaber 23:49, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
Whoa, actually, you have a good point there. Haha, after the thing with User:Eighteen, I am surprised that I didn't notice it. I would recommend Special:Contacting Wikia and getting an IP check on him and User:BOINGajr 23:55, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Power Miners and Category:Part

Would you mind checking Talk:Power Miners and deleting Category:Part? I merged the last Images and pages into the Category:Parts and now it only has to be deleted. And btw, what will we do with the sub-categorys Category:Accessory and Category:Unnamed Part? If you delete that category, will they be deleted too? Maybe you got a solution. Thanks! Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits17:36, November 8, 2009 (UTC)

I think you are right. The codes should be put into the pages for the actual games. Maybe we should add a notice in italic stating that the codes for the games are listed in the page for the games. Thanks for deletingthe category! :) And should we make a new category for the redirect pages of the parts, so all the parts pages with the Element ID in front of them and with the content "REDIRECTPart xxxx" (xxxx=Design ID)? IDs?

I just wondered your Template, that will be used, doesn't show the Element IDs and the Design ID of that part. What do you think about adding a table with the colors, color names and Design and Element IDs, as I did with Part 2357? I would also recommend to put another category in your Template, with the Price. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits13:39, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

Well, on Lego.com in the section Pic a Brick the price of the brick is shown. Since it will be only a short section of the Template, I would add that in it. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits14:31, November 9, 2009 (UTC)

RE: Nav Template

  • Hey, I think that that works great. I kind of prefer that template over an infobox, but Nighthawk made the other one so maybe you would want to check with him about it first, but other than that I'm fine with it.

    • I saw this, and must admit, I like the new template. One thing that intrigues me though is the element part ID Number. How do you know it? FA Board

  • Hi, the five days set out for nominations are just about up. I saw we only have 6 nominees, so I was wondering if we should:
    • Reduce the voting time to a shorter time since there are so few nominees
    • Extend nomination time slightly to get some more entries, mainly so there isn't anyone feeling left out if they're the only one who isn't voted in.
Or, if not, would it be ok to close nominations sometime soon and get the voting started? NightblazeSaber 01:41, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I must have somehow missed that section about the majority of the community voting- it should be fine to leave it as is :) Ajraddatz did put Samdo up for a nomination, but without his permission. He then said he'd ask Samdo if he wanted to be nominated, but nothing's happened here about it since, so I'm not sure what's happening with that. With the item number subcategories, I think they were put in place when we had a lot of 7xxx sets, and it was decided to split them up into hundreds for ease of navigation. But I don't mind if they all go back into the 7xxx category again :) NightblazeSaber 23:29, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

I noticed there are the Category:7100 to 7900 sets existing, but also the Category:7000 sets. Should we merge the Categories:7100-7900 sets into the Category:7000 sets since this was done with all other categories (Category:1000 sets 5000 sets 8000 sets,...)? Message for all Users

Hi it's me again.
Would you mind putting a new message in that news bar at the very top of the main page? You know, there where this message stands:
"Check here and here for an overview of votes currently being carried out on Brickipedia. Nominations and voting for December's Brickipedian of [...]"
Could you add the message, that all Part pages should start with the word "Part" and then the Design ID and not the Element ID (unless it is a redirect page) to make sure nobody starts creating such pages. Its quite difficult to hold them apart, so that would be an improvement. Oh, and then additionally the fact that Users should add a redirect page with the Element ID to the Design ID part if possible? If not, they can put the Template:NeededRedirect on that page. GA's

  • Hi, I've put two of the GA Nominations (Pirates and Castle (2007 theme) to GA status since they met all the criteria to pass through as GA's. I wasn't sure what we ended up on deciding to do to tag GA's, so I used Rating- hope you don't mind. The only problem with this of course is the alignment with the sitenotice, but it isn't a major problem. I think Wookieepedia may be using javascript to align their era icons so it automatically changes if the sitenotice is dismissed- I'll look into it in a few weeks when I have the time to do so. The other think I wanted to ask you about is the GA category. I noticed you had things set up for a "Category:Good articles". I changed some of this to Category:Good Articles, but this was only for consistency with Category:Featured Articles- I'm completely fine with it if you want to change it back to the lowercase 'a', it doesn't bother me at all. Also, on Brickipedia:Good articles I can't seem to get the template with displaying the GA's as a list working like it is on the FA page- would you be able to take a look at it please? Thanks, NightblazeSaber 23:26, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

Combiner/Alternate Models Template

Hi! In my opinion we need a Template for Alternate Models or Combiner Models so we can make pages with them. It should look like the Template:Set and it should contain

  • Title
  • Image
  • the set/sets needed to create
  • Years
  • Theme
  • ...

I don't know anymore, maybe you do. I acn't figure out how that Template is made, I tried but it was too confusing. Can you help? Thanks! No prob. To the Template: Ajraddatz said he would like to do that, but he didn't reply on my confirmation yet. And I meant Alternate Models, that can be built out of the same set, as well as Combiner Models, that can be built with two or more sets together. I would prefer to make an extra page for them, because they might have a storyline appearance, which wouldn't fit in the normal article. Btw, I added on the Bionicle page the list of all Alternate/Combiner Models. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits10:11, November 21, 2009 (UTC)

Template:Biosector01

Me and Lcawte had an idea to make a second Template like Template:Wikipedia, only with Biosector01. There are many pages with nearly every sentence copied out of Biosector01, so we thought it would be needed. We got Examples here and here. What do you think about it? Okay, now I got a major problem:
  • The Template uses .
  • But puts after the adress this: /wiki/pagename
  • But the Biosector.com page uses: /wiki/index.php/pagename
  • So I can't use anymore.
  • If I use {}, I can't put two seperate words in here.
  • And if I bing the words, like Toa_Mahri, it shows me the _ in the shown Template!

Got it? Maybe you know a way to solve it. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits22:02, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

R5-417

  • Hi, I was wondering if you could have a look at what Ajraddatz has said on my talk page here and let me know what you think. At the very least, I don't think the user should be allowed to make any more votes until they make a substantial amount of mainspace edits. NightblazeSaber 22:21, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
    • We don't have evidence that the user is intentionally using their account for voting for their friends views, but we do know that the users know each other outside of here (if you have a look at their conversations between each other). We also can see clearly from the contributions this user has made that the user is using their account exclusively for voting purposes. Blocking the school's IP doesn't stop users from logging in and contributing I don't think, but at the same time it doesn't stop this user from making votes still. And I agree about the mainspace edits now, especially since it's in a school situation where it's easier to get other people to make these edits in this account to get the editcount up. But I'm not sure how else to make it so that the user either becomes a worthwhile contributor here or stops making votes. NightblazeSaber 22:54, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

FA Board

  • We appear to have a 3-way tie between Ajraddatz, Cpatain Rex and Samdo994, and if no more votes are made in the next 2 hours or so, we would have a problem with 3 users on 3, and 3 on 2 for the FA board. So, I was wondering what we should do about this. I've come up with either making all 3 users on the tie reviewers, however that would mean we have 6 reviewers, and I still find that a little too much for the size of this wiki, 5 seems like a good number to me. Or, we could do a quick re-vote for just the users on 2 votes, making those users on 3 votes board members, and removing the nominations on less than 2. We could maybe make it last about 2 days, and contact users who have voted, asking them to re-vote. Also, votes for these 3 tied users can remain there, as users have already voted for them after seeing a larger range of nominees, so it's unlikely that they would change them. Alternatively, we could just extend all voting for a set time period, however I don't think that's a great idea as I think we need to get this board up and running soon. NightblazeSaber 22:54, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
    • Sounds good to me :) How long should we make it last though? NightblazeSaber 07:21, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
      • Ok- I don't think we're going to get an FA through before the start of December, so it's fine with me. I've cleared the voting section and made it for these three users only, and put in a small quick paragraph about the vote, but feel free to fix it up however you want to- you seem to be much better at these things than I am :D NightblazeSaber 07:35, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the tip, I'm still tying to get used to and remember all the commands that a wiki has. These last couple of weeks being my first experience at creating pages on a wiki, I feel I'm not going to bad. Cheers Gladiatoring 18:43, November 30, 2009 (UTC)

  • Sorry, I don't have the original image any more- usually when I see the logo's uploaded ok, I just delete the documents on my computer. I got it from city.lego.com, but the site's been updated since then and can no longer find it. I also had a look on archive.org for previous versions of the site, but the most recent was in June 2008, and didn't have the image there either. I'll have a look around on Google images and see if I can find it there, and if I do, I'll let you know. Sorry, NightblazeSaber 08:15, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Runoff Vote

  • Hey, the runoff vote's still at 0/+2/0, which still means it's a tie. I was wondering what we should do if it's still like this by the cutoff date in about an hour- should we keep it running, or put Cpatain Rex in and have a runoff vote for the runoff vote? NightblazeSaber 23:11, December 2, 2009 (UTC)
    • Ok- here we go again :D Should we make it another 5 days? NightblazeSaber 21:45, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

344 Bungalow

Hi, There seems to be a problem with set 344 Service Station (It's more like my inexperience), I think its because of the the redirect on this page, When I click on the set 344 Bungalow listed in the category LEGOLAND and 1969 it takes me to 344 Service Station which is a Fabuland set from 1979, heres a reference for these two sets http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&q=344&catLike=L&v=1. Any advice or help you can provide regarding these sets and how to add the real 344 Bugalow set would be appreciated. Cheers Gladiatoring 06:16, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

headers

Hi, Sorry about that a bit of an oversight, I did try to only edit the pages I had created , I went a bit overboard perhaps , I will go through todays edits and try and fix any error's I have made . Cheers Gladiatoring 11:14, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Castle

Hello ,The text on the front page about Castle is wrong, mentioning that castle is the second longest running theme, when in fact it is the third. I have changed the castle page itself http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Castle , but an admin needs to change the front page

"Castle is one of LEGO's core themes and was introduced in 1978. Orginally centered around medieval life, involving knights and castles, it also incorporated popular fantasy elements as it saw many changes over the years and is still running today. The theme is the third longest-lived in the LEGO universe (after Town and Trains)" Regards Gladiatoring 15:20, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

headers

Hi again could you have a look at this page I have created .The set headers are in place but do not show on the page ? http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Lmg003_LEGO_Japan_Ostrich .Thanks again sorry for this extra work I'm creating for you. Cheers Gladiatoring 17:54, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

  • I think it would be easier if I just rename the sets to Lm003 ect as there are only 2 of these sets (at the moment), I only have to change the headers and redirect this first one, anyway I will leave it for 12 hours or so as I have to goto work soon, so If you change the template or anything like that it can stay the way it is, else I will change the headers ect later after work. Just let me know if changing the letters from lmg003..ect to lm003..ect is ok , then I'll go ahead and do that . Thanks for your reply, Cheers
  • I'm not sure if this is an official LEGO number or not. Someone who could read the label may have a better idea, The information is from Bricklink ,http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=lmg003-1 and this one http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=lmg003-2.

I tend to trust their numbering system for sets, as I have never found one to be inaccurate before. Here is a set catalogued as kabtec-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=kabtec-1 Gladiatoring 18:47, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Codes + Link

Would you mind correcting two things I can't improve?:

  • Delete then the codes from the games Rock Rocket and Cave Convoy on Power Miners? I included them in the actual games' page.
  • Add another sentence and an external Link to Wikianswers LEGO on the Forum:Index page, it would be helpful, because it says: This is not a place to ask general questions about Lego.

Thanks. Samdo994 talk Contribs Special:Editcount/Samdo994 edits18:58, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Mainpage LEGO Wikianswers Module

  • Hi, I was wondering if you'd be able to have a look at this entry on my talk page and let me know what you think about this being added to the main page. My only concern about this is that it's kind of giving more recognition to this official friend than the others. NightblazeSaber 22:21, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Re: Brickipedia:Vandalism in progress

LEGO set prices

Can you have a look at this and tell me what you think. The aim is so that people who use a different currency can see how much sets are for them. This one is not completed. Jag 07:34, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Testing The New Skins

Hi, I thought to make it easier to test the new skins, we could use Subpages and they can just copy @import "/index.php?title=User:Lcawte/monaco.css/New<Color>Skin&action=raw&ctype=text/css";, then you can edit them if you use my username space.. If you update subpages, insted of people copy and pasting it, it will update bugs etc. --User-Lcawte-Sigbrick2Lcawte 16:30, December 11, 2009 (UTC)

Re: questions

Thanks for answering them. I will gladly help. One other question, The videos must they be putten on a seperate page ex. a commercial of LEGO city of a specific set Sparky

OK I didn't know that

Re: Newcomer

  • Hi, I'm not really sure about this either. Honestly I'm not really a fan of videos on wikis on the whole, but I can see their use with some things (such as movie trailers, etc). But I'm not really sure if we need commercials on pages. I guess it would be acceptable if they're official commercials, but if you don't want to watch the video on the article, all it does is take up room on the page, and formatting videos on pages like set articles can be a bit tricky when you've got the set header and infobox already there. I'm honestly not sure as to what we should do about this one- sorry :S NightblazeSaber 23:13, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Voting on Categories

What do you think about doing a voting on merging the

  • Category:7100 sets, Category:7200 sets, Category:7600 sets and Category:7700 sets into Category:7000 sets and merging
  • Category:1300 sets and Category:1400 sets into Category:1000 sets?
